Ellangothai completed her entire education, from school through doctorate, as a visually impaired person. She did her schooling at Little Flower Convent Higher Secondary School for the Blind, Chennai, then went on to earn her BA, MA, and PhD in English from Avinashilingam University for Women, Coimbatore, graduating in 2021.
She is currently Guest Lecturer in the Department of English at Aringar Anna Government College of Arts and Science, Namakkal. She has published ten papers in UGC-listed journals, presented thirty papers at national and international conferences, and contributed a chapter to an interdisciplinary literary anthology. She has qualified the UGC-NET examination, the national benchmark for eligibility to teach and research in Indian universities.
She began as a communication trainer at Karna Vidya Foundation, Chennai. She has partnered with Pratibodh as English communication consultant from the beginning, where she teaches visually impaired students. She is a recipient of the Srikalabharati and Kovai Wonder Woman awards, and has won prizes in oratorical, essay writing, and Braille competitions. She runs a Tamil-language YouTube channel of motivational talks through storytelling.
